COST OF STUDYING & LIVING IN UK

EDUCATION SYSTEM IN UNITED KINGDOM

The typical and basic very first degree offered in the UK is the bachelor’s degree and usually last for three years. After the successful completion of the three year bachelor degree students are known as undergraduates. 

Some universities offer a vocationally based degree lasting upto a duration for 2 years. This helps students who wish to continue on degree first but want to stay in employment. Many universities offer undergraduate master’s degree lasting for 4 years.

Students who have completed the first degree are eligible to undertake a postgraduate degree, which may be a master’s degree typically lasts for  years and research based can last up to 2 years. Doctorate degree last for 2 years.

ELIGIBILITY/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduate: to gain entry under the UK undergraduate course, a good high school academic certificate or 12 years of schooling is required.

  • An academic IELTS score of min 6 bands. Some universities may require higher scores.
  • A student should be of 18 years while applying or before joining a degree program.

Postgraduates: a good academic record is required to get enrolled in a postgraduate degree in the United Kingdom. 60% or above in 1st degree is required by most of the universities in the UK for masters and research courses. Some universities also accept 50% or above in the 1st degree.

GMAT score between 600-700 can be required by many universities for management programs.

All reputed management institutions require a minimum of 3 years of work experience along with the age of 25+ as a minimum age requirement.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION

  • A copy of the resume, statement of purpose (SOP), two references/letter of recommendation (LOR) from recent institution/employers.
  • Certified copies of mark sheets from 10th till the last exam passed
  • A copy of the passport and score sheet of IELTS/TOEFL.
  • Students require portfolio applying in courses like art and design and architectural courses. 
  • A work experience certificate is mandatory for some professional courses like MBA in almost all UK universities/colleges.

VISA REQUIREMENT

  • To apply for a type 4 general visa you must score 40 out of 40 points.
  • A confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) by the school or any other educational institute in the UK, requires 30 points. 
  • Some courses may require Academic Technology Approval Schemes (ATAS) certification. If any course requires ATAS certification, one needs to present it by taking a printout. 
  • Along with the original degree certificate, transcript or qualification, test results of IELTS and TOEFL are mandatory.
  • A proof for the educational funds as well as living expenditure reports for up to nine months needs to be presented. All documents provided to show maintenance of funds needs to be original and worth 10 points. 

PART TIME WORK DURING STUDIES

Students are allowed to work 20 hours in week during their academic session. However, they are allowed to work full time during vacations such as Christmas and Easter.
